Former African Footballer of the Year Mustapha Hadji is
hoping his move to Germany's FC Saarbrucken will present him with a last chance to return to Morocco's national side.
The 33-year-old, who won the title as the continent's best player
in 1998, has played in France, Portugal, Spain, England and most recently Dubai.
He has signed a three-year deal with Saarbrucken and told the German
magazine 'Kicker' he has set himself the target of getting them back in the top division.
"I will soon be 34 and can't have any hopes of winning a Champions
League.
"I will finish my career here but I haven't come for a holiday.
"I still love football and that's why I signed a three-year contract.
"When I know that I am no longer bringing anything to the team, I
will end my contract and leave.
"But there is no reason I cannot play again for the Morocco national
team.
"I'm still optimistic I can go to the World Cup. It rests in my own
hands," Hadji said.
Hadji competed for the north Africans at the 1994 and 1998 World Cup
finals.
His last appearance for Morocco was in a 3-1 defeat by Mali in 2002.
Hadji debuted for Morocco against Gabon in 1993 and has played a total
of 63 times, scoring 12 goals.
Youssouf, Mustapha's younger brother, has also moved in recent
weeks from relegated Bastia to French Ligue 1 club Rennes.
